Photographs

Pictures are one of the first things you run to save if there is a fire (heaven forbid!). But they are great clutter makers too. One never gets around to putting them in albums. Good thing too.  Imagine trying to lug all those albums out the door in a hurry.

Forget the albums.

From today on, here's what to do:

When you get a roll of photos from the developer, throw away the outside envelope they came in along with the film ends. Go through the packet of photos. Immediately discard all the bad shots, like the ones where someone's eyes are closed, the focus or lighting is bad.

You're left now with the good pictures. Next go through these and decide which need to be reprinted for family and friends. Give those negatives immediately to the developer.  When they are returned, throw away the negatives. (That's right.  No one wants to go through years of old negatives for a cherished photo. With today's technology it is easier to simply have the original photo copied).

Stationary stores now have boxes specially made for storing photographs. Begin using one of these boxes like a file, storing pictures in a chronological order, the most recent in front.  Pictures relatives and friends send in cards and letters can be intergrated as well.  Now you can enjoy your snapshots  much more than when they were hidden away in clumsy envelopes in various drawers, closets and delapidated boxes.

The photos which do not fit into these special photo boxes are the ones taken professionally (school and studio).  Designate another, larger box about the size and shape of a shirt box but a sturdy one to store these.  Be sure you label it ''PHOTOS".
