Make a list of who you need to buy for and what you hope to
find. Don't wait to be inspired.
Deciding in advance saves you
from wandering aimlessly up and down aisles
Shop early in the week and early in the day.
Take time off from work if necessary to save hours of
frustrating lines.
No-shopping gifts are time savers. For instance: gift
certificates, tickets to an event, magazine subscriptions. Or, my
favorite, contribute to a charity in your recipients' name
Order things shipped for people outside your area, via
catalogs or online
Set up a gift wrap center and wrap each gift as you get
it. The center should have scotch tape, scissors, gift tags, as
well as paper and ribbon. Then everyone in the family can use it.
Coping with Cards
Pare down your list to just the people who won't be with you
during the holidays
Let a photograph taken any time during the year be your
card.
Avoid the post office this time of year; order stamps by
mail. To order by credit card call 1-800-782-6724
Update your card list by gathering up all the cards you
received last year.
Decking the Halls
Think about a smaller tree. A table top version can stand as
tall as a floor model, with a lot less work.
Have a tree trimming party. Get help from your friends.
It will be fun and finished in a fraction of the time.
Hire someone to do major cleaning if that is necessary.
You will have more energy to enjoy the festivities.
